Campus Safari #19: Deciding Between Two

Currently I am in a never-ending debate with myself. I have been going back and forth between possible majors for a while now and I really just want to narrow it down to one to put myself at peace! For this week’s Campus Safari I attended the Majors Expo for the perfect opportunity to further explore my options. It was in the Ballroom at the top floor of the Student Center. There were tables for each and every department set up with faculty members from that particular department at each one.
First, I am considering taking a Pre-Med track here at SCSU. Although it is not a major, choosing Chemistry as a major would be very helpful in attending medical school. I went to the Chemistry table and received tons of information on all the courses I would need to take for this major as well as what each specific area of Chemistry involves and does in today’s world. I also received a brochure with what classes I should plan on taking each year to meet the department’s requirements.
The other possible major I am considering is Psychology. However, there were not any faculty members at the Psychology table when I was there. This was disappointing although, there was a stack of packets on the table that had list of all the many career opportunities to pursue with a Psychology degree. This was very helpful because if I do not decide to pursue a medical career, I want to have options in the field of Psychology. This packet even includes strategies to reach your career goals.
I believe the Majors Expo was just what I needed. It gave me a taste of the two majors I am considering and provided me with career options. If you are undecided this would be a great way to see all that Southern has to offer. There may be majors you have never even heard of or considered represented at the Expo. Some of these may even catch your attention and lead your life on a whole new path. It is important to keep your mind open to new options and realize that the career possibilities grow and develop each day. It is your life, so do what YOU want.
