Campus Safari #15: Embrace Your Differences

Here at Southern, there are people of all different ethnicities and backgrounds. This is so new to me because everyone from my high school had pretty much the same story. They had a good life, they were happy and their parents paid a lot of money for their education. I never really experienced much outside of that. However, I feel I needed a change. Near the end of my high school experience I got tired of the same old people. Since college is so diverse I thought it would be informative to visit the Multicultural Center for this weeks Campus Safari. They provide services for all students here at SCSU.  They promote the acceptance of diversity and I believe that is such a wonderful thing. The Multicultural center works diligently to help the university as well as help the community. They participate in various activities that benefit and celebrate everyone regardless of ethnicity. One aspect in particular I thought was really helpful was the fact that the center loans textbooks to students who qualify. If you are in financial need, they will help you to make sure you are fully prepared for school. They are so willing to help out everyone so I believe that more people should take advantage of this great resource. From my experience, not much is said about the Multicultural Center to first year students. I feel everyone at SCSU should advocate the many services of this center more to new students so they can really benefit from all it has to offer. The Multicultural Center is conveniently located in the Adanti Student Center so make sure you check it out!
